Book 8 Update

Hey, did you know I was still writing novels? It’s a true fact! Another true fact is that I finished up the latest Hazzard Pay novel, Book 8, just yesterday. I sent it off to my editor, who should be able to look at it next week and then I’ll be able to make her recommended changes and then you’ll all be sorry!

Or you won’t. I dunno.

Anyway, the new book is a little different than the past ones. My other novels are all just one long, single story, but for this one I divided it up into four separate, shorter stories that all come together to form a bigger story at the end. Hey, if it’s a technique that works for John Scalzi, I’ll make it work for me, too!

So yeah, after I get the editing done and get a cover for this bad boy, I’ll release it upon the unsuspecting world. That should be…some time this summer, I guess? Wild. So expect to hear more about that soon.

Book Seven Cover Reveal!

Book Seven of the Hazzard Pay series, The Armageddon Seed, is out this week! And here’s the cover, revealed to y’all!

Here’s the description for Book Seven:

Eddie Hazzard knows something is missing from his life, but he can’t quite put his finger on what it is. There are holes all over Arcadia, bits of information missing, gaps in the narrative, and only Eddie can fill them in.

Assuming he wants to. Assuming he’s okay with finding out the terrible truth that underpins everything in the city.

Everything has been building to a single moment, but as it fast approaches, will Eddie actually come out the other side a changed man, let alone alive? The Armageddon Seed has been planted, and the time to harvest has come.

Quick Cases Cover Reveal and Pre-Order Live!

My latest book, the short story collection Quick Cases, is now available for pre-order at Amazon! It’s only $3.99 on Kindle, which I think is a steal. Y’all ready to see the cover for it?

It’s pretty slick, I think. But it’s got nothing on the physical paperback version…

Wrap-around cover!

Anyway, as of the time of this writing, Amazon only shows the Kindle pre-order, but the paperback version should be available as well soon. The book goes live on November 1st, so mark your calendars and make sure your favorite e-reader device is fully charged. This is the longest Hazzard book yet, clocking in at nearly 400 pages (I wrote a lot of short stories, y’all). It also features a Foreword by my brother, Clyde, the only person who ever grocked to me borrowing Eddie’s first name from Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

Giveaway Time!

So, I’ve been slowly but surely getting new covers for all of my books, as I’m sure you know. I’ve been doing the cover design and layouts myself and I’ve really enjoyed the process. Each book cover is unique, of course, but they’re also unified in design and type and stuff like that.

Anyway, I ordered a copy of Book 2, The Hidden Throne, for myself a couple of weeks ago. I was super-pleased with the cover and my work on it, until I took a moment to really look at the spine of the book:

Yeah, that’s not the right title at all.

So, I’ve since corrected it, but I’ve still got this (otherwise perfectly serviceable) book just sitting around, reminding me of my failures.

So! Giveaway time! Here’s the rules:

First, follow me on Twitter. I don’t tweet much, but I do let you know when my books come out or are on sale or whatever, and occasionally I post funny comments or comics or I rant about something for a moment. It’s a good time. If you already follow me on Twitter, congratulations, you’ve completed step one.

Step the second, tell me why I should give you the book. Just a sentence or two, whatever you can fit in a tweet along with thing the third.

Thing the third, use the hashtag #HazzardGiveaway.

I’ll give away the book on my birthday, March 27th, which is coincidentally the day Book 6 — The Long Fall Into Darkness — comes out! It is also the day I turn 40 and all of my bones turn to dust (I assume; I dunno, I’ve never been 40 before). Good luck!

New Book 2 Cover!

In my ongoing effort to unify the style and look of my books, I’m happy to reveal the new cover for book 2, The Hidden Throne! It looks a little something like this:

Pretty snazzy, eh?

Up next will be Book 3, Death Comes Calling, and then all of the books will have covers with the new aesthetic. I’m real excited to see what my cover artist is able to do with the third book.

New Books Coming Soon!

Yes, you read that title right: books, plural!

First up is Book 6 in the Hazzard Pay series, The Long Fall Into Darkness. I just put it up for pre-order over on the Amazon this morning. It comes out March 27th (coincidentally, my birthday. And a Friday in 2020!). Assuming I can get KDP’s website to accept it, the print version will likewise be available that day.

Here’s the blurb for Book 6:

Life’s not easy for former Organization Boss and sometimes private detective Eddie Hazzard, especially when someone’s said the quiet parts of his identity out loud for him. Eddie’s been revealed as the (at least temporary) leader of the only criminal syndicate in Arcadia, and everyone wants a piece of him for it: the cops, the criminals, and this strange guy who keeps dying and being reborn over and over again. But if Eddie wants to clear his name, he’s got to get out there and confront the woman who’s behind all his misery: Carmen, the sister of his sometimes ally Vera Stewart, who has…well, there’s something mysterious and shifty about her, that’s all he knows. If Eddie doesn’t solve this case soon, he may not get a chance to solve any other case. Ever.

‘Cause he’ll be dead.

Exciting, no?

But hey, you say, I said “books plural” up there, didn’t I? Why yes, I did. And the second book is actually a children’s book that’ll come out this week!

The second book I’m here to talk about is called Dr. Jayne and the Missing Unicorn Horn. If follows the exploits of magical creature doctor Jayne Marie Forrester, whom everyone calls Dr. Jayne. She’s the best there is at what she does, and what she does is help out magical creatures. So, when Herman the Unicorn arrives at her office one morning missing his horn, she sets off an adventure to help him find it!

Hope you enjoy the sneak peak at the cover (minus trade dress, which is fancy author talk for “title and author’s name”). It was drawn by yours truly:

Book 5: An Ill Wind Blows Cover Reveal and Book Release!

It’s finally done! Book 5 has been edited, the cover is done, and I’m ready to publish!

So, first off, hows about a cover reveal?

Book 5!

Pretty swanky, right? I am right chuffed (as the Brits might say) with this cover. I’ll definitely be using this artist for Book 6 (and probably having them redo the covers to Books 1-4 eventually).

Hows about a synopsis? Well, your wish is my command!

Everyone wants a piece of Eddie Hazzard, Arcadia’s premier private detective and sometimes crime boss. There’s a price on his head, a team of highly-trained assassins on his tail, and now he’s suddenly wanted for a murder he definitely didn’t commit. Not only that, he’s been hired to find the fabled Jewel of Hakido, a priceless diamond, and everyone and anyone knows he’s after it. What will Eddie do? What is the connection between the Seven Ill Winds and Eddie’s ninja leader, Kimiko? Will he find the Jewel in time? Will he survive the case? Or will everything that’s been piling up on top of Eddie for the past several years finally crush him?

Anyway, the book has been submitted to Amazon, and will be live and ready for purchase sometime this week (probably Friday at the latest, I’d assume). I know I’ll be sitting here the rest of the day hitting refresh on the KDP page, waiting for it to shift from “In Review” to “Published.” Both the print and the ebook version are submitted and should be available for purchase soon! I’ll post a link as soon as it’s available.

New Short Story Available Now!

Starting today, you can pick up an electronic copy of my short story “Bad Press” for only $0.99! That is literally less than a dollar. It’s currently available (as of September 10th at noon) on iBooks and Barnes & Noble, among others, and should pop up on Amazon within the next day or two.

Here’s the brief description of the story:

Eddie Hazzard’s name is being smeared in the press, and he’s going to get to the bottom of it. To restore his honor, he’ll have to contend not just with the reporter who impugned him, but with a whole host of violent enemies who want him dead. It’s just another day in the life of Eddie Hazzard, Hard-Boiled Detective, in this speculative fiction version of a cassingle. Remember cassingles? Man, those were awesome.

Go give it a read while you wait for Book Five!

New Book

I have a new book out!

Well, not really. There is a new book out with my work in it, but you’ll have to read Danish to make heads or tails of it.

See, a few months back, I took on a series of commissions drawing comics about children in Denmark living with dyslexia. It took me a few months to complete all 20 comics, but it was a fun and unique experience. I’m glad I got to participate in it, though I wish there was an English version of the book available.
